I received a message a little while back from one of the owners of a new tattoo and piercing shop opening up here in Santa Cruz, Mission Street Tattoo and Piercing. Doug Love, formerly of Staircase Tattoo, was teaming up with Ron Nelson, Giovanni Weld, and Paul Cismowski to create a new shop near the corner of Mission and Bay Street. Together, they were putting together a first class outfit that would offer their extensive experience in a great Westside Santa Cruz location (1515 Mission St, Santa Cruz, CA 95060). To back up their new location, the guys wanted to set up a new website with some great photographs, and I was thrilled that they had thought to call us.
I was able to setup an afternoon where everyone would be around, and went in for some location head-shots. The images would give some personality to the artist bios, and for an industry as personal as tattoo & piercing, we thought it would be a great first connection for clients looking to meet a new artist. After completing the photographs of each artist, I moved outside to create a twilight exterior of their building. I was looking to create an image that would be familiar to those who know the area, and also distinct enough that new clients would be able to spot the shop as they were driving by. The finished image taken just after sunset is meant to capture both the shop, and some of the street that lends the shop its name.
